Kennewick: Slurpee Capital of the World
Betcha didn’t know this: Kennewick is the Slurpee® Capital of the World.
It’s true: The 7-11 store at 3606 W. Clearwater Avenue has been the No. 1 seller of slurpees on earth for six of the past nine months. And they were the No. 1 slurpee seller in the U.S. in 2007.
The owner, Don Mariotto, tells the Herald that he’s starting a campaign to secure the No. 1 worldwide spot over a 12-month period. He’s giving away free t-shirts:
The first 300 people who buy a 40-ounce Slurpee from each of the six Tri-Cities stores gets a free T-shirt with the campaign logo on it.
The campaign is designed to promote all six stores because of new equipment at the other stores and continued growth of local Slurpee sales — the Tri-Cities ranks 23rd of 762 markets in the U.S.
Who knew that Slurpees were so popular in the Tri-Cities??!! Crazy stuff.
Anyway, if you want to visit the No. 1 Slurpee seller, here’s a Google map to their Kennewick store:

This is partly not true. While Kennewick has had the busiest store in the world, it has not been crowned the slurpee capital of the world. This morning on the Winnipeg radio station hot 103, people were assured that Winnipeg has had more slurpee sales with 5 of its stores then Kennewicks’ 1store. There you go!

Thanks, Jenn. But it doesn’t seem fair to compare 5 stores vs. 1 store, does it?

I guess not. But we winnipeggers have to defend our title !
It has now officially been confirmed that Winnipeg, for the 9th year in a row, has been crowned as the slurpee capital of the world, based on yearly sales. No need for a “Move over Manitoba” sign, just yet!( no offence to the store whatsoever)

Congrats Kennewick on your great run to become Slurpee Capital of the world…maybe next year you’ll beat Winnipeg.
CONGRATS TO WINNIPEG, MANITOBA CANADA ON WINNING THEIR 9TH SLURPEE TITLE.
A BIG THANKS TO 7-11. OH THANK HEAVEN…FOR 7-11

This article is FALSE. Everyone knows that Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada is still the Slurpee Capital of the World. We have 5 stores alone that sell more Slurpees than the one in Kennewick!
Nice try though!

Matt, we’re not comparing 5 stores to 1 store. EACH of the 5 stores outsell the 1 one in Kennewick…
Comment by Glen — July 11, 2008 @ 11:06 am
“Out of the top 10 stores, in terms of Slurpee cup sales in North America, eight of those 10 are from Manitoba,” 7-Eleven spokeswoman Sheila Calder
And the number one selling store is in Winnipeg located at Pembina hwy. and Killarney ave.
So the top store and overall top seller worldwide is winnipeg.

[...] knew that an innocent blog post about Kennewick slurpees would bring out Winnipeg’s finest for what turned into a fairly heated argument about a super-cool drink? Seriously, it’s [...]

We Winnipegers take this very seriously. We don’t want any false information going around. This “super-cool drink” seems to be as much as a big deal to Don Mariotto and the people of Kennewick, to be making such claims, so don’t be the pot calling the kettle black.
We just want to see the facts, and this article is not factual.
