Kennewick School District: New High School Boundaries?
You can bet that a lot of interested and concerned parents and students will be at Highlands Middle School in Kennewick tonight for a meeting to discuss the Kennewick School District’s proposed high school boundary changes.
The district is going to present numbers that show current attendance at Kamiakin and Kennewick high schools substantially higher than attendance at Southridge high school. And making matters worse, according to district projections, is that the current 4th-8th grade classes are also made up heavily of future Kamiakin and Kennewick students. Here’s a chart the district will show at the meeting, showing 4th-8th grade projections being way out of balance:

The numbers show the imbalance with Southridge High School expected to add far fewer students than the other high schools. The district’s plan to redraw the high school boundaries, according to this chart below, will make the projections a little more even … though still weighted to Kamiakin and Kennewick.

Tonight’s meeting will start at 7:00 pm at Highlands Middle School. If this is an issue that matters to you, better show up and let your voice be heard.
The charts above are from the district web site. You can download the slides here.
