J. Michael Kelly Flips at Columbia Cup
Jul 26, 2009 Kennewick Sights
Another great weekend of hydroplane racing is in the books, with Steve David and the Oh, Boy, Oberto winning the title. But the thing that everybody will be talking about is J. Michael Kelly’s flip this afternoon during the Columbia Cup heats. Have a look at this:
That’s a one-and-a-half flip in mid-air, and Kelly was okay. Amazing.
Smell the flowers…

Found this nice, little flower display a few days ago outside the Windermere Real Estate office on Kellogg Street while going in to say hello to Cari. Looked nice, smelled even better.
Best Buy is Ready for Black Friday
Nov 26, 2008 Kennewick Sights
Looks like the Kennewick Best Buy store is ready for Black Friday, and anticipating a big lineup of people on Thanksgiving night. I was doing some shopping there this afternoon and couldn’t resist taking a shot of the two port-a-potties in front of the store’s main entrance.
(By the way … Best Buy was packed this afternoon with shoppers, as were the two other stores I went to. What economic slowdown??!!)
Scenes from the Benton-Franklin County Fair

I was out of town last week and we never made it to the Benton-Franklin Fair, but I just read in the Herald that attendance was up 12% over last year, so it looks like a successful event. Most of the concerts were sold out, and same with the rodeo according to that article.
Since I couldn’t be there to shoot some photos, I thought I’d post some of the best photos I found on Flickr from local fair-goers.
Scott Butner took this great photo above on “Tough Enough to Wear Pink” night. Ha! You can see a couple fair photos in Scott’s Flickr stream.
This great action shot above is from Joe Nicora, who has a set of 10 fair photos on Flickr.
Lynda True shot this one of what I think is one of the entrants in the flower competition. You can see Lynda’s full set of 37 photos on Flickr.
Thanks to Scott, Joe, and Lynda for letting me post their photos here. I should also mention that Flickr user ~.michelle.~ uploaded a few fair photos, but hers are marked “All rights reserved,” so I shouldn’t post one of them here.
Maybe next year we’ll get out there and I’ll shoot some photos of my own….
Playground of Dreams: Warm Weather Spot in Kennewick
Apr 14, 2008 Kennewick Sights
We had a super-warm weekend here in the Tri-Cities. I think we hit 80 degrees on Sunday, or real close to it. (Of course, the temp was down by about 20 degrees on Monday, but that’s spring for you.)
Anyway, as we get closer to the warm weather of summer, one of Kennewick’s hot spots will — as always — be the Playground of Dreams in Columbia Park. In addition to the traditional playground stuff for kids to do, like climbing, swinging, digging, etc., one of my favorite things is the big water park. Here’s a picture of my daughter (light blue shirt) and I all the way back in 2004:
I’m sure there’s an official name for it, but I just call it the water park. It sprays water on and off constantly, and when the Kennewick weather gets hot, this is the place to be. I’m hoping we’ll go back again this summer. It’s one of the best things to do in Kennewick, no doubt about it!
