New Rite-Aid Moving Along

I was able to grab a quick iPhone photo of the construction site where a new Rite-Aid is being built — seemed like the light was red forever, so I snapped away. Looks like they have most of the property leveled, or close to it.

This is at the corner of Gage and Steptoe — there used to be a food mart/gas station there. Rite-Aid hopes to open the new store in late spring 2011. The existing Rite Aid on the Columbia Center Mall grounds will be closed.

Sunday on the Links

Well, not the real links … the putt-putt links! Seriously, what better way to spend the best weather day of the season than taking your family out to Golf Universe for 18 holes of mini-golf? That’s what we did on Sunday, and we weren’t alone. Check out these pics — I’ve never seen Golf Universe so crowded in my life.

About That Kennewick Lighthouse

There are quite a few things in this world that I don’t like/don’t understand -

  • why my husband bites his nails
  • why my son nibbles on paper
  • why Jo married Professor Bhaer instead of Laurie, like she should have
  • why people include raspberry in chocolate-based desserts

but the big one, and the subject of this post, is the Kennewick Lighthouse -

Lighthouse with Blue Bridge in the Background

They say this is the first lighthouse built in the U.S. since 1962. That’s right, the first in almost half a century. Gee, could it be because there is no reason to build one?

Columbia River Sunset

They say the iPhone has a pretty lame camera and it doesn’t take good pictures but, I dunno, this one seems to have come out pretty well. :-) It’s the Columbia River at dusk, taken from the lookout stations near Cedars Restaurant on Clover Island.

Cable Bridge in Kennewick

One of these days, I’m gonna grab my better camera and tripod and go find a good spot to shoot photos of the cable bridge at night, when it’s all lit up. Yes, everyone has already seen pictures like that of the cable bridge, but I still want to do it.

Until then, I had to settle for this daylight photo (from my iPhone) that we took last weekend after dinner at Ice Harbor Brewing Company.
