Got Game? (Hoops, That Is) Bring It To Kennewick

kennewick 3-on-3 logoOne of the things Spokane is known for is their big 3-on-3 street basketball tournament every summer, and now some folks in Kennewick are trying to add to the popularity of the downtown area with a 3-on-3 tournament of our own.

It’s called Downtown for Three, and it’s happening August 9th and 10th in downtown Kennewick. They’re going to block all traffic in between Auburn and Cascade streets for the basketball tournament, plus other kids activities and fun stuff, food vendors, etc. The 3-on-3 tournament is open to anyone from 3rd grade on up. In the adult division, they’re even going to have a separate tournament for guys 6= and smaller — like me. And if I wasn’t so darn out of shape, I would soooooo sign up for this. (I was a pretty mean point guard back in the day….)

It’s all being organized by the Historic Downtown Kennewick Partnership, and you can learn more (plus get entry forms) at www.downtownforthree.org.

Meet the Seahawks This Weekend in Kennewick

Seahawks Blue TourFor the second straight year, the Seahawks “Blue Tour” will be visiting Kennewick — it’s a chance to meet a couple players, some SeaGals, and mascot Blitz. And with the Seahawks no longer having their training camp on this side of the state, it may be your only chance to meet the ‘Hawks. (Shame, too, because I miss driving up to Cheney to watch a day of camp.)

Defensive backs Josh Wilson and Kevin Hobbs are due to be in town this weekend. Here’s a rundown of the Seahawk festivities in Kennewick:

Saturday

12-2 pm - tailgate party (with autograph & photo opportunities) at Outback Steakhouse, Kennewick
3-5 pm - mini training camp for kids at the Toyota Center; it’s free, but you have to register here for the camp
7 pm - Seahawks will be on hand at the Toyota Center for the AFL2 game between the Fever and the Spokane Shock

Sunday

10 am - The Seahawks crew will be at Keewaydin Park in Kennewick for a Father’s Day pancake breakfast. You’ll be able to do the meet-and-greet thing and there’s going to be a raffle for autographed Seahawks schwag. At 11 am, they’ll raise a 12th Man flag at the park, and it’s going to fly all year. Nice.

Sounds fun to me!

Canyon Lakes to Host Golf Fundraiser

Kennewick Events | Comments (1) Matt McGee April 29, 2008 @ 8:31 pm

Kennewick’s wonderful Canyon Lakes Golf Course will host a benefit golf tournament this Friday (May 2). It’s the Tri-Cities Sunrise Rotary’s annual scholarship tourney, and tee time is 1:00 pm. (Registration begins at 11:30 am.)

The tournament raises money for scholarships at a bunch of Tri-Cities area schools: Connell, Jubilee Youth Ranch, Kahlotus, Kingspoint Christian School, Kiona-Benton City, River View, Tri-Cities Prep, Columbia-Burbank, and Pasco High.

I gave up golf many years ago, so I won’t be going to this, but it sounds like a fun time and obviously is for a good cause. And Canyon Lakes Golf Course is one of the best places to golf anywhere in Washington.
