Kennewick Business News Roundup

Here’s another update on what’s going on in the Kennewick business scene.

  • Nothing But Noodles, one of my old favorite lunch places when I worked at OWT, is celebrating its 4th anniversary in Kennewick next Tuesday, March 17th. There’ll be $4 noodle bowls, door prizes and gift cards, plus free cake. Sounds like fun! I think we might need to stop by. If you’re not familiar with it, NBN is located at 7911 Grandridge Blvd.
  • Rising Moon Gallery will relocate back to Kennewick in May. The new location will be 1220 N. Columbia Center Blvd., right near Pier 1 Imports.
  • Affordable Detailing is now open for business at 6713 W. Clearwater Ave., Suite B. It’s an auto, boat, and RV detailing shop that’s open Mon-Fri, and also takes appointments on Saturday.
  • Columbia Center Mall will add a few new businesses this year, including Coach, a popular handbag store. Perfumania and Panda Express are also planning to set up shop at the mall soon, too.

State Senator Jerome Delvin and Reps. Larry Haler and Brad Klippert will host a “town hall” meeting in Kennewick next week. It’s a great chance to talk and listen to our elected representatives, and you can bet the state’s enormous budget deficit is going to be a hot topic. Here are the details:

1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Kennewick City Council Chambers
210 West 6th Avenue, Kennewick

Kennewick Fire Dept. to serve Tri-City Heights

According to an article in Wednesday’s Herald, fols in Tri-City Heights will soon be getting fire protection services from the City of Kennewick instead of from Benton County. Here’s how it’ll work:

Benton County Station 130 at Canal Drive and Grant Street will become a base for the Hazardous Materials Team, and fire response equipment will come from one of two Kennewick stations within about four minutes of the Tri-City Heights area.

Five fire agencies in the Tri-Cities have signed off on the change of plans.

Olympia Street Improvements Coming … Someday

The City of Kennewick and Benton County are planning to make improvements on a portion of Olympia Street … but it won’t happen for at least a year.

The city just received a state grant to help pay for widening about 2,500 feet of Olympia on the county side. They also plan to add sidewalks, curbs and gutters to both sides of the road from the 397 intertie all the way to 27th Street.

But the $3 million project won’t even go out to bid until next year. So, don’t hold your breath just yet.

Congrats to Hank Sauer & Sandy Owen

Hank Sauer and Sandy Owen were named the Kennewick Man and Woman of the Year, respectively, last week for their ongoing community service and involvement. If you’re not familar with the winners, here’s the KNDU news story that tells all about them and their accomplishments in Kennewick.
